High NO2 Concentrations Measured by Passive Samplers in Czech Cities: Unresolved Aftermath of Dieselgate?

چکیده
This work examines the effects of two problematic trends in diesel passenger car emissions—increasing NO2/NOx ratio by conversion NO into NO2 catalysts and a disparity between emission limit actual emissions everyday driving—on ambient air quality Prague. concentrations were measured 104 membrane-closed Palmes passive samplers at 65 locations Prague March–April September–October 2019. city stations during those periods comparable with average values 2016–2019. The selected locations, after correcting for 18.5% positive bias co-located monitoring station, 36 µg/m3 (range 16–69 µg/m3, median 35 µg/m3), EU annual 40 exceeded 32% locations. have correlated well (R2 = 0.76) 2019 daily vehicle counts, corrected additional due to uphill travel intersections. In addition expected “hot-spots” busy intersections center, new ones identified, i.e., along six-lane road V Holešovičkách. Comparison data from six 15 March–30 April 2020 restrictions same period 2016–2019 revealed an overall reduction even larger NO. spatial analysis time both demonstrate consistent correlation traffic intensity along/near path. slow pace reductions suggests that stricter NOx limits, introduced last decade or two, so far failed sufficiently reduce concentrations, there is no clear sign remedy Dieselgate excess emissions.

Validation of Ogawa passive samplers for the determination of gaseous ammonia concentrations in agricultural settings
The Ogawa passive sampler (Ogawa USA, Pompano Beach, Florida) is a useful tool for monitoring atmospheric ammonia (NH3(g)) concentrations and assessing the effects of agricultural waste management practices on NH3(g) emissions. The Ogawa sampler, with filter-discs impregnated with citric acid, was used to trap and determine NH3(g) concentrations in a variety of agricultural settings. A wide ran...
متن کاملUse of passive diffusion sampling method for defining NO2 concentrations gradient in São Paulo, Brazil
BACKGROUND Air pollution in São Paulo is constantly being measured by the State of Sao Paulo Environmental Agency, however there is no information on the variation between places with different traffic densities. This study was intended to identify a gradient of exposure to traffic-related air pollution within different areas in São Paulo to provide information for future epidemiological studie...
متن کاملPolyethylene Passive Samplers for Measuring Hydrophobic Organic Chemical Concentrations in Sediment Porewaters
In order to determine the hazards posed by hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) in sediment beds, the following areas of research were explored: (1) the use of polyethylene (PE) sheets as passive sampling devices in sediments, using performance reference compounds (PRCs) in order to reduce deployment times to the order of days, (2) the use of limited PRC data to calibrate mass-transfer models f...

This study evaluates the performance of Model 3300 Ogawa Passive Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) Samplers and 3M 3520 Organic Vapor Monitors (OVMs) by comparing integrated passive sampling concentrations to averaged hourly NO2 and volatile organic compound (VOC) measurements at two sites in El Paso, TX. Sampling periods were three time intervals (3-day weekend, 4-day weekday, and 7-day weekly) for three...
متن کاملMonitoring of Aquatic Environments Using Passive Samplers
A review is given on the development of passive samplers for aquatic environments. Passive samplers that are simple and easy to use and with minimal consumption of organic solvents to desorb the analytes from the trapping media are focused. New developments in quality assurance procedures are highlighted.
